They’re called tabletop roleplaying GAMES.

They’re mean to be fun. Everything you read or hear about roleplaying games should be thought about in this context:

“Am I having fun with this?”
Not everybody will have the same answer to this.

The other thing to remember is that these are social games; you play them with other people. So the next question you need to be willing to ask is this:

“Is everybody else having fun?”
That’s the end goal of many tabletop RPGs, and many games in general, for that matter.

Everybody has different things they find enjoyable. This is why so many different tabletop RPGs exist, and why so many different ways of playing them exist.

Even if you have your favorite computer game you enjoy above all others, that’s probably not the only one you play. Other games may give you a different kind of enjoyment.

Tabletop RPGs are the same way; not all of them excel at the same things.

Knowing more about other tabletop RPGs can give you new ideas for how to make interesting changes to one of your favorites.

Seeing new things is part of what makes trying new things fun; and aren’t games meant to be fun?
